Central San Academy
Ever wonder what happens to water when it goes down the drain? Every spring, the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District Citizens Academy (Central San Academy) provides an award-winning, behind-the-scenes look at one of your community’s core services: wastewater treatment.
Participants in Central San Academy learn about almost everything we do, including how we use engineering, chemistry and technology to turn waste into worth by cleaning our community’s water and returning it to our customers as recycled water. Participants also learn about critical projects we are undertaking, how rates and fees are set, and what is being done to develop our region’s water supply. The curriculum is taught by our expert staff and Board Members. It is interactive, informative, and engages you to think about water in a new way. You will see everything you learn in action during a tour of our treatment plant, laboratory, recycled water fill station, and household hazardous waste collection facility.
This award-winning program (California Special Districts Association 2016 Exceptional Public Outreach and Advocacy Award) is offered FREE of charge to participants. It is a rare glimpse into how used water gains new life.
Join us this spring to find out more about the other side of water!

Why should you join us?
If you take an interest in the activities of your local government agencies, have considered employment in the wastewater industry, are curious to meet active members of your community, or just want to expand your general knowledge, we welcome you to our world. Throughout the program, you will have a chance to provide direct feedback and ideas on how we as an organization can continuously improve and engage in discussions with our staff and your peers. What we do directly benefits and impacts you, and your input is important! Our goal is for you to have a better understanding of your government and the core services we provide.
