Running for the Board

A five-member Board of Directors governs Central Contra Costa Sanitary District (Central San). The Board sets policies, appoints officers, and hires and oversees the District’s General Manager, Secretary of the District, and District Counsel

Central San Board Members are elected in November of even-numbered years. The office is non-partisan, and there are five seats with staggered four-year terms.

As an independent special district, Central San is governed by a five-member elected Board of Directors.  In 2020, Central San transitioned from an “at-large” election system to an area-based “by-division” election system under the California Voting Rights Act.  In 2021, the division boundaries were redrawn based on the 2020 Census data to reflect the changing populations of our service area.  For the complete history of this transition, please visit the Redistricting Page.

Divisions 1, 3, 4, and 5 will be up for election during the general election on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Due to a Board vacancy appointment, Division 3 is up for election in 2024 for a two-year short term. In 2026, the seat will be up for election for a standard four-year term along with Division 2.
